    Meal prep fails at the carrying stage. Containers go in a plastic bag, the bag goes in the gym bag, and by 3 pm lunch has been sitting against a pair of shoes. A meal prep backpack fixes that with an insulated compartment that is part of the pack.

    Keep it cold longer

    Insulation slows heat. It does not make cold. Chill the containers overnight, add an ice pack on top, and fill empty space so there is less warm air inside. Open the compartment as few times as you can.

    It depends on how you pack it. There is no single rated time. Start with containers chilled overnight, add at least one ice pack, fill the empty space, and keep the bag out of direct sun. Open it as little as possible until you eat.
